Well, there it is

Obama will be our president. Good for him and his supporters. Let them go to sleep in joy tonight. Tomorrow is a new day, when they realize that the burden of governance is something quite of a different order than winning a campaign.

We still are targeted by terrorists. We still have an economy that is tanking. We still face rising challenges from totalitarian regimes in China, Russia and Iran. We have big challenges ahead.

So enjoy your victory, Democrats. Don’t drink too much tonight though, because you have serious work in front of you. And I will be there, sniping at your heels every moment.

I now join the loyal opposition, more loyal than the Democratic opposition of the last 8 years. I will fight you when you are wrong and support you when you are right and you are doing right by the country. But we Republicans will be back in 2012. Be ready, because you will have a fight on your hands. We are defeated, but not unbowed. We will fight and we will win, if not today, then tomorrow, because we are right and you are wrong.

May the next four years with you at the wheel not be too damaging to our country.

The long silence

No posts from me for a while (and consequently, no readers!) because the disk drive on my laptop decided to abandon ship. Backups? We don’t need no stinkin’ backups!

So everything on there is gone (have you looked at the prices for data recovery from a broken disk drive? Thousands of dollars!). The only really valuable thing on there were the pictures that my girlfriend and I had taken over the last year together. I will miss those. But I suppose we have a lifetime to make up for that, so it’s not too great a tragedy. And we have the memories and those can’t be erased (barring, you know, Alzheimer’s!).

So I’m back on the job, back on the bullhorn. God save us all.

Final prediction for this election

I think Obama wins with 51% of the vote, McCain with 48%. Obama will get 291 electoral votes, McCain 247 electoral votes.

Obama will win the battleground states of Virginia, Colorado, Pennsylvania, New Mexico and Nevada. McCain will win the battleground states of Florida, Ohio, Indiana, North Carolina and Missouri.

McCain may actually pull it out in Virginia, but that won’t affect the final verdict. Americans will vote the rascals in and they’ll vote ‘em out in 2012! :)

Keep in mind that this is not what I *want* to happen. But I have to be honest and give my best guess as to which way it’s going to go. I will be overjoyed if my prediction proves incorrect, but I will always try to tell it like I see it instead of giving in to my own personal biases.

That said, vote early and vote often! I would love to have the pleasure of being proven wrong.
