The one good thing about the Ayers relationship

Is that I think it shows that Obama hasn’t wanted to be president for his entire life (unlike, say, Al Gore). I’m uncomfortable at such naked ambition and consorting with a known domestic terrorist obviously shows that Obama was not thinking about running for national office at that time. This is a good thing.

The bad aspect of it? Well, he’s consorting with a known domestic terrorist! How many on the Right would consort with an abortion clinic bomber, even if his acts were 30 years in the past? I would think not many. Beyond the morality of it (which is bad enough), it would simply be political suicide to do such a thing.

Obama is certainly ambitious and some would say, too ambitious. It’s not often that a man who’s been a Senator for 2 years decides to run for the “big job”. But it’s obvious that he didn’t have presidential dreams back when he was working with Bill Ayers and somehow to me, that’s comforting.

  1. Look at McCain’s associations. He was part of the Iran Contra affair you know the event that killed thousands of people and try to overthrow a democratically elected goverment.

Also Ayers never killed anyone that means he is not a terrorist. mcCain on the other hand also associates with people who have in the past killed people such as people who shot and killed doctors. He was also quoted as saying that a woman who bombed a clinic was “a fine woman.”

Obama also had loose associations with Ayers. He was on the charitable board with him for two years, a board that was funded by conservative republicans and a personal friend of John McCain.

Please do some research before you start believing this desperate attempt from the flailing McCain campaign.

  2. “Also Ayers never killed anyone that means he is not a terrorist.”

That is so non-sensical. What about planting and setting off bombs do you not understand? Do you think explosives understand your intentions? Do you think a bomb cares whether or not you “only want to damage property”? He is a terrorist because he planted bombs. Whether they actually went off or actually killed anyone is results-oriented thinking. It is the ACT, not the RESULTS that all civilized people should be opposed to.

As for the McCain stuff, if any of that is true, I’m sure Obama’s campaign will trot it out. Throwing up “John McCain has his own associations” is a smokescreen and doesn’t answer the question “What was Obama thinking when he worked with this domestic terrorist?”

The point of my post was that he certainly wasn’t thinking about the presidency at that time, because this looks REALLY bad in a national campaign and puts into question Obama’s judgement. Most Americans would NOT associate with a terrorist, in any fashion, especially an unrepentent one. We still haven’t heard exactly why Obama didn’t share that point of view.

  3. First of all this has all been investigated during the primaries. Hillary Clinton tried to bring this up and it was debunked as irrelevant.

Secondly, if anyone you knew did anything in their past that would make you just as guilty? Have you ever known anyone who jaywalked? That means you are a criminal. Have you ever met someone who drove drunk? That means you are a felon. Have you ever known someone who did drugs? That makes you a felon.

It is ridiculous. Ayers did his despicable actions in the 60’s when Obama was 8. He was never convicted, and Obam met him when he was a Professor at a well respected University.

Just think about every person you have had a casual relationship with and then see if it passes the test. I hope I don’t offend you. Obama has said repeatedly that he abhors the violence used in demonstration against the illegal Vietnam war. He has made it clear that violence is not the answer. Obama had a casual aquaintance after the man was reformed.

Isn’t America the land of second chances? Don’t we say if you commit a crime (and are convicted which Ayers was not) then you do the time. After the time supposedly you are clear and free?
